You made a great post. Good image, strong copy, right hashtags. But then ... hardly any reach, few likes, no comments. Sound familiar?
Organic content on social media - that is, without an ad budget - is still important. But in 2025, it's harder than ever to get real results from it. In this blog, I explain why organic posts often don't work, and - more importantly - what you can do about it.
The algorithm doesn't work in your favor Most social media platforms make money from ads. Therefore, organic posts are less likely and less often shown to your followers. Organic reach on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram has declined structurally in recent years - often to below 5%.
Solution: Post at times when your target audience is online, use interaction-enhancing formats (polls, questions, quizzes) and encourage engagement in the caption.
Your content is too channel-focused Many companies use social media as a kind of bulletin board: "Look what we do!", "Our new service is live!" or "We're looking for a colleague!". But content that is only about you rarely catches on. Followers scroll past it at lightning speed.
Solution: Create content that responds to your target audience's interests, problems or emotions. Think: recognizable situations, valuable tips or a humorous wink.
There's no line or recognition in your content If your followers don't know what to expect, or you post irregularly and without a clear style or message, it's hard to build rapport.
Solution: Work with content pillars (e.g., tips, behind-the-scenes, customer stories), maintain a recognizable tone-of-voice, and post consistently - preferably with a content calendar.
You miss interaction - and that works against you Without interaction (likes, comments, saves), the algorithm thinks, "This post is not interesting." Result: even less reach. No interaction = no visibility = no growth.
Solution: Ask a question in your post, actively respond to comments and posts, and be active yourself on other accounts. Social media is a two-way street.
You're trying to go viral, but missing the basics We all want that viral post - but many businesses forget that social media is all about consistency, not random hits. One hit is nice, but your brand grows from regular, valuable content.
Solution: Focus on the long term. Analyze what works, adjust your strategy, and give yourself time to build a community.
Your content is too generic "Monday motivational texts," "Copy of a trend," "Stock photo with quote" - so many brands post this kind of content. It lacks personality, surprise or value. And so people just scroll through.
Solution: Show your own face. Use real images, real stories, and your own spin on trends. Unique = memorable.
Conclusion: organic does work - if you do it right
Organic reach is not dead, but it requires more strategy, creativity and interaction than ever in 2025. If you just broadcast or hope for luck, you will remain invisible. But if you respond to what really interests your target audience, you can build a strong community with organic content.
✅ Briefly:
Think from your follower, not from yourself
Be consistent and recognizable
Respond and encourage interaction
Post with purpose and direction
Analyze, learn and optimize
